Hey Craftey friends, Kayla here and today I want to admit that I am 100% a crazy bag lady. I have really big bags, really small bags and every size in between. I have bags inside of bags! If I ever have to leave my house in a hurry I could easily pack everything near and dear to me into my vast array of bags and never look back.
So, it goes without saying that today, I'm making a bag. Now that I've dropped that bombshell on you, go grab yourself a blank canvas bag and some heat transfer vinyl and follow along.
Estimated Time To Complete: 15-20 mins
Here's what you'll need:
- Blank Canvas Bag
- Color Chimp Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Weeding Tool
- Cutting Mat
- Iron
- Cricut Maker or similar machine
Step One: Upload Image
Start by uploading your design into Design Space and saving it as a cut image.
Step Two: Set Up Design
Next, measure the length and width of the makeup bag. I always, always measure twice and cut once!
Set the width and height of the image in Design Space.
Click the make it button, turn on the mirror function and send the image to the machine to be cut.
Step Three: Cutting
Place the heat transfer vinyl on the cutting mat with the shiny side facing down, load the machine and press the flashing start button.
Step Four: Weeding
Now that the image is finished cutting, use a weeding tool or something similarly sharp and pointy to remove the unwanted pieces of vinyl.
Step Five: Transfer Design
Center the decal on the bag and use a hot iron to apply medium pressure for 15 seconds. I use the cotton setting whenever I'm using my iron for heat transfer vinyl.
Since the design is slightly larger than the iron you'll have to move the iron around and press in sections.
Craftey's Color Chimp heat transfer vinyl is a premium hot peel vinyl. This means you don’t have to wait for it to cool before removing the carrier sheet. If you're an impatient crafter like me, then this is great news!
Simply peel away the carrier sheet and you're finished!
Now all you have to do is fill your cute new bag with all the pretty things! I'm using this one as a makeup bag but it would be great as a pencil bag or snack bag as well.
*Color Chimp heat transfer vinyl is machine washable on the cold setting with a mild detergent. Just be sure to turn the bag inside out before washing and tumble dry on a low setting.
