The temperatures are finally starting to {slightly} drop in Alabama and I am more than happy to jump on any opportunity to pull out the sweaters and jackets. I have seen so many cute custom jean jackets recently and I thought it would be really fun to create one for my daughter for the season. Isn't it amazing what you can do with heat transfer vinyl and a spark of inspiration to #GetCraftey!?
Let's get started.
Here is what you will need:
- Color Chimp Luxe heat transfer vinyl (I used white, baby pink and neon orange for this project)
- Jean Jacket (I snagged one on eBay for $10!)
- Silhouette Cameo or similar machine
- Weeding tools
- Cutting mat
Start by setting up your design in the Silhouette Studio. I used this free svg design. I duplicated the pumpkin so that I could fill in the top area of the jacket. Once you have your design arranged to your liking, be sure to mirror it.
Load your heat transfer on the cutting mat shiny side down. Ensure that your cut settings are correct and then send. I cut the pumpkins first from white.
Repeat and make your other cuts. Select "no cut" on whatever parts of the design aren't being cut at the time.
Once you have made all of your cuts, weed your design pieces. Peel away the overlaying vinyl first.
Then, use your weeding tools to weed away the smaller pieces.
After you have finished weeding, arrange the pieces of your design on your jacket. It was easier for me to use an iron rather than the heat press for this project since the jacket is so small and wouldn't lie flat on the press, but either will work!
Peel away the carrier sheet and reveal your fabulous jean jacket! I am seriously so in love with how this turned out that I might just have to make one for myself.
There are so many ways that you can use both adhesive and heat transfer vinyl. Be sure to check out the Craftey blog frequently for fun project inspiration!
Also be sure to head over to the Craftey shop to find the materials used in this project, including our Color Chimp Luxe heat transfer vinyl.
Happy crafting and happy fall y'all!
