The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to include a little extra motivation in your life and we've got the just project to help you do it!
This month's free hand-lettered cut file from Arlena over at Bossy Brushstrokes could not be more perfect to help you start the new year off on the right foot! For this project, we're pairing this cut file up with our Color Chimp Glitter HTV to create a cozy - and motivational - sweatshirt that will remind you that, actually, you can do ANYTHING.
- Blank shirt (we found a burgundy crew neck long-sleeve at Old Navy but you can use any shirt you'd like!)
- Cutting machine (we used a Cricut Maker for this project)
- Color Chimp Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl in Black
- Weeding Tool
- Heat Press or Iron
- Actually I can & I will SVG cut file (download here)
Check out our full video tutorial of this project below (and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more videos like this one!) or keep scrolling to find all the written step-by-step instructions.
Step 1: DesignUpload the SVG file to Design Space or Silhouette Studio and resize to fit your shirt. We sized our file to 6” tall.
Step 2: Cutting Apply the vinyl to your mat, with the shiny side facing down. Don't forget to mirror your design! Press the GO button on your machine to begin cutting.
Step 3: WeedingOnce your machine is done cutting, use your weeding tool to remove all excess HTV from your design. We like to leave our HTV on our mat while weeding because it provides a nice, sticky surface to help catch our weeding scraps and makes clean up a bit easier.
Step 4: Press Your Design
To help more easily align your design, fold your shirt in half and press a center line down the middle of your shirt. This will give you a visual marker to help you line up your design when you place it on your shirt. Next, place your design on the shirt where ever you'd like it and press with medium pressure for 15 seconds at 320 degrees (Note: be sure to follow the pressing instructions for the brand and type of heat transfer vinyl you are using).
Step 5: Enjoy!Carefully peel away your carrier sheet and that’s it – you’re done! Seriously, just look at this sparkly goodness! As always, if you try this DIY be sure to share a picture in the comments below, we’d love to see your projects!
